Two residents a year

The Residency

Most producers spend years getting here. You've got 65 sessions.

Ninety minutes at a time in the studio with Max and Elliot, run at whatever pace fits your life, across up to six months. You come out the other side with six to eight finished tracks, mixed and mastered, and the ability to do it again without us.

Who it's for

You can already do this. It just takes you forever.

You come up with ideas. You can sometimes finish them. But a track that should take you a few days takes you a few months, and you can't quite work out where the time goes.

That's who The Residency is built for. You've got taste and you've got ideas. The gap is between what you hear in your head and what actually comes out of the speakers, and 65 sessions of focused work is what closes it.

It's not for you if
  • You're still learning the basics. Start with the Beginners Production Program and come back to us.
  • You want someone to finish your tracks for you.
  • You can't commit to 65 sessions and the work you do between them. That part is the whole thing.
The format

Sixty five sessions of ninety minutes, at whatever pace suits you.

65Live sessions
97Hours in the studio
6Months to use them
6-8Tracks finished

Every session is live with Max or Elliot. Nothing pre-recorded, and no modules to work through on your own time.

There's no fixed curriculum, and that's deliberate. A set programme would be wrong for you specifically. We start by working out what's actually slowing you down, then build the sessions around it. Some residents need to get faster at starting. Others can start all day and never finish anything. We'll know which one you are inside the first few sessions.

You get six months to use your 65 sessions, so you set the pace. Go five days a week and you're done in three months. Go three days a week and it stretches across the full six. Load up over a quiet stretch and ease off when work gets busy.

The whole thing is centred on starting and finishing ideas, over and over, until the process stops being the hard part. Work from our Auckland studio or over Zoom from anywhere in the world. You can do both.

Built on the Next Level Method

The Next Level Method is the approach we've developed over 10+ years of teaching and releasing music. It's what's behind every signing and every release that's come out of NLP, and it runs through all 65 sessions of The Residency.

The output

Six to eight tracks you could send to a label tomorrow.

01

Finished music

Six to eight tracks taken all the way, arranged and finished to the point where they're ready to go out.

02

A pro mix and master

Elliot handles the final mixdown and master on every track, so what you walk away with sits at the standard a label actually expects.

03

A release plan

Which tracks to pitch, which labels to pitch them to, and what order to do it in.

04

The skills

This is the part that still matters a year later, long after the last session is done.

There's no course to log into and no group to share the time with. It's you and us, one to one, for 65 sessions.

Bought separately, the sessions and the mix and masters alone come to $12,727. You're paying $7,999 for all of it, and the label and release strategy isn't something we sell on its own at any price.

What it costs the normal way
65 standard 1-on-1 sessions at $159$10,335
8 mix and masters at $299$2,392

Questions

Before you apply.

If you're finishing tracks slowly rather than not at all, you're in the right range. Apply and send us two tracks. We'll tell you straight if it's not the right time.

That's exactly why it runs on sessions instead of a fixed timetable. You've got six months to use all 65, so a busy fortnight costs you nothing. Tell us when you're stretched and we'll pull the pace back, then pick it up again.

No. Plenty of it runs over Zoom and it works just as well. If you're in Auckland, or you want to come to us for part of it, the studio is there.

Yes, and most residents do. Half-finished ideas sitting in a folder are exactly what we want to get into.

Whatever you already use. We work across all of them.

Yes. Pay in full, or spread it out in instalments through Afterpay.

You've got the music, the mixes and the plan. Most residents keep working with us on a lighter 1-on-1 basis from there, but there's no obligation to.

Because it's close to 100 hours each, spread over half a year. There isn't room for more than that without the quality of it dropping.

Apply

We take two residents a year.

Max and Elliot read every application and choose personally. Tell us where you're at and what's holding you up. If it looks like a fit, we'll set up a call.

Application form goes here Add the HubSpot form before launch. Fields to capture: name, email, phone, artist name, years producing, DAW, links to two tracks, what's slowing you down right now, in person or remote, how many sessions a week you can realistically do, and when you'd want to start.
